IBT has published a translation of the Gospel of Luke and the book of Acts in the Abaza language. According to the 2020 census, there are 43,793 Abazas in Russia. The Abaza language belongs to the Abkhaz-Adyghe family of North Caucasian languages. The original homeland of the Abazas is Abkhazia, from where they migrated to the northern slopes of the Caucasus range in the XIII-XIV centuries A.D. Most Abazas now live in the Abaza district of the Karachai-Cherkess Republic of the Russian Federation and in its capital city, Cherkessk.
IBT has published a new book in the Abaza language called Solomon's Wisdom. The Abaza are a people of the Northwestern Caucasus who live primarily in the Karachay-Cherkess and Stavropol areas of southern Russia. The Abaza language belongs to Abkhaz-Adyghe group of Caucasian languages. It is one of the five official languages of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic. According to the 2010 census, the number of Abaza speakers in Russia is about 38,000.
The new edition is a collection of extracts from two Biblical books – 1 Kings and the book of Proverbs. The epigraph to the collection is the quote, "The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, turning a person from the snares of death" (Proverbs 13:14). It introduces the reader to the central theme of the collection: wisdom. Wisdom belongs to God; it is the moral law of the universe. It is woven into the foundation of things and everything in the world is subject to its laws. Whenever people do good deeds and make good decisions, they live in harmony with wisdom...
The twin-peaked Mount Elbrus is located right on the border of Kabardino-Balkaria and Karachay-Cherkessia in the North Caucasus region of Russia. Many well-known legends and myths have been reinterpreted by the local peoples and connected with their native lands and this enormous mountain: it was here that the Argonauts searched for the golden fleece, and Prometheus, who gave fire to mankind, was also chained to a cliff on Mt. Elbrus. The Abaza people see Mount Elbrus in the biblical story of the Flood. According to one of their legends, Noah's ark should have stopped on Elbrus. Noah addressed the mountain: “Please stop the ark, let it abide on your top!” But the mountain refused Noah, so the Lord punished it by splitting its top in two, and the ark eventually stopped on Mt. Ararat.
