Biblical motifs in the works of Alisher Navoi

This new publication from the Institute for Bible Translation explores a little-known aspect of the work of the great Alisher Navoi, the founder of classical Uzbek literature. The book examines his view on Scripture, the semantic parallels with the biblical text present in his works, and his interpretation of the image of Isa (Jesus), the Messiah.

Motifs from the Pentateuch, Psalms and Gospels are evident in many of Alisher Navoi's works. Navoi was probably a follower of Sufism. We hope that the study of his poems will help Uzbek readers better understand the origin of such motifs in the work of the poet. In addition to the poems themselves, the book includes a brief biographical sketch of Alisher Navoi and a glossary of terms used in the text. This edition was developed by a group of experts in art history and linguistics, and illustrated with miniatures by an Uzbek artist.

The publication will be of interest to literary critics, art historians, orientalists, historians and all those interested in poetry and cultural issues. The text is presented in Uzbek, Russian and English, so the book can also be used for parallel study of these languages.
