On June 25, the Bible Society of Kyrgyzstan hosted a meeting in Bishkek to explore the potential of oral Bible translation into the Kyrgyz language. At present, the Bible Society of Kyrgyzstan, in collaboration with the organization LinguaService, is engaged in rendering the Bible into high literary Kyrgyz.

A workshop on "Discourse in the book of Proverbs in Turkic languages," organized by the Institute for Bible Translation, was held in Tashkent on April 21-24. Translators and exegetical advisers from the Altai, Balkar, Siberian Tatar, Khorazm and Kyrgyz Bible translation projects participated.

IBT has published a unique collection of Orthodox liturgical texts in the Kyrgyz language, including musical notation for performance. This is IBT’s first-ever publication of this kind. Most of the 1,000 copies printed will go to the Kyrgyz diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church in Bishkek, since this edition was produced in response to a request of Bishop Daniel of the Kyrgyz diocese. Translation of liturgical texts, which are designed for communal singing to melodies well known in the Orthodox world, demanded that the translation team acquire a completely new set of skills. Special attention had to be paid not only to accuracy in the translation, but also to sound collocations and rhythmic patterns...

Working in coordination with the Bible Society of Kyrgyzstan and the Orthodox Diocese of Kyrgyzstan, IBT has produced the Kyrgyz translation of the Six Psalms (Hexapsalmos) that are used in the Orthodox church service. In mid-December, IBT’s deputy director Marina Lomova presented the diocese with 200 copies of this translation, which was printed in Bishkek by Al-Salam Publishing House.
