Reprint of Six Liturgical Psalms in the Yakut (Sakha) language

The Institute for Bible Translation has published a reprint of the Hexapsalmоs (Six Liturgical Psalms) in the Yakut language at the request of Archbishop Roman of Yakutsk and Lensk.

The Hexapsalmоs consists of the six psalms (3, 37, 62, 87, 102, 142, according to the psalm numbering in the Septuagint, the ancient Greek translation of the Old Testament) that are read in the Orthodox Church at every Matins service throughout the year. Unlike with the full book of Psalms, which was checked against the Hebrew Masoretic text, the Yakut translation of these Six Psalms for this publication was edited against the Septuagint, since liturgical texts are historically oriented to the Greek translation in the Orthodox tradition.

The Yakut Hexapsalmоs was first published in 2007, and since then the number of churches holding services in the Yakut language has increased significantly. The Six Psalms are read in Yakut in 17 churches in the Northern, Vilyuysk and Central divisions of the Yakutsk Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church. The new edition is in response to the Archbishop's wish to reprint this book for the needs of new parishes. This edition is dedicated to the 155th anniversary of the Yakut Diocese.

This and IBT’s other Yakut translations can be found on our website.
